Frank teaches Fundamentals of Financial Accounting to MBAs and has received awards for teaching excellence.
The course develops an understanding of financial accounting fundamentals for prospective consumers of corporate financial information. Students learn how investments, financing transactions, and operating activities are recorded in the income statement, balance sheet, and statement of cash flows, and develop skills for analyzing financial statements and disclosures.
An introduction to the concepts and standards underlying financial accounting systems, including revenue recognition, inventory, long-lived assets, present value, and long-term liabilities. The course emphasizes constructing and interpreting the core financial statements.
Part I of a theoretical and empirical literature survey covering corporate disclosure, cost of capital, incentives, compensation, governance, financial intermediation, financial reporting, tax, agency theory, cost accounting, capital structure, international financial reporting, analysts, and market efficiency.
